William Morris Foster, 82, of Afton passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 26, 1940 in Monroe, WV, the son of the late George Luther Foster and Alma Dixon Foster.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Shawn Foster, a granddaughter Rileigh Virginia Stone, and nine siblings.
Morris is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Anne Moore Foster; his loving daughter, Tamara Foster Stone; grandchildren, Arlo Grace Stone and Delaney Camille Stone; one sister, Betty Foster Whitmore; as well as a doting dog, Maggie May.
Morris was a revered land surveyor and practiced his vocation for over 55 years. He was an involved and devoted family man who enthusiastically followed Virginia basketball, painted beautiful landscapes, wrote poetry, and was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and nature lover.
He graduated from Scottsville High School. He was a Charter and Honorary Lifetime member of the Nelson County Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He had a smile that was contagious and was a wonderful storyteller and jokester. He was kind and soft spoken and will be deeply missed by his family and dear friends, his neighbors and the community.
A service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
