Wayne Briggs

On December 17, 2023, Wayne Briggs entered the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, at home with family. He was 89 years old. 

Wayne was born on October 13, 1934, in Arrington, Virginia, and was the son of the late Hattie Rucker Ross and Radford Briggs, Sr. In addition to his parents, preceding his death were his brothers, Nathaniel Briggs and Radford Briggs, Jr.; sister, Fayola Briggs; wife, Vera Ann Briggs; daughter, Lori Briggs; son, Wayne Anthony Briggs; and grandson, Anthony Briggs. 

Wayne attended New Mount Baptist Church and graduated from Nelson County Public Schools. During his schooling, he met Vera Ann Briggs, whom he was married to for 61 years. Together, they had seven children and seven grandchildren. Wayne dedicated over 50 years to an esteemed career as a barber in Charlottesville, Virginia. He co-owned the Rose Hill Barber Shop with George Wells of Faber, Virginia until his retirement in 2013. His talents spanned singing, playing guitar, fishing, gardening, and repairing cars. Notably, he constructed the home for his family of nine.

Those who will cherish Wayne’s memory include his sister Gladys Smith; children Carol Worthy, Rhonda Anderson, Samantha Briggs, Jacob Briggs, and Mark Briggs; grandchildren, Marcie Martinez, Ryan Hatcher, Trevor Worthy, Alexis Briggs, Marcus Briggs, and Kalyndia Briggs, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. 

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Samuel Woodson eulogist and Rev. James Rose officiating.

Interment will follow in the Martin Family Cemetery in Shipman.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
