Wanda Jane Powers

Wanda Jane Powers was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She left this world peacefully on November 13, 2023 at the age of 59.

She was born to James and Jane Alley on March 18, 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland.  After leaving the big city behind, she chased her dreams to the countryside of Virginia where she married the love of her life, Rickey Powers and started her family.  Together they had two children, April Leathers and Rickey Powers, Jr. as well as accepting her step-daughter Shelia Powers as her own.

Wanda loved spending time cooking.  She made sure no one left hungry.  She also loved cuddling with her dogs Shadow, Black Jack, Buddy, and Baby Girl.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandson.  She will be greatly missed.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Rickey Powers; son, Rickey Powers, Jr.; daughters, April Leathers and Shelia Powers; grandchildren, Isaiah Stark, Travis Stacy, Savanah Powers, Brandon Powers, Brittany Varner and Emberly Varner.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the family cemetery 322 High Point Lane, Afton, Virginia 22920.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, 828 Front Street Lovingston, Virginia and suggests that all flowers be sent to the funeral home.
