Verlice Lovely Turner, 86 of Adial Road, Faber Virginia, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend departed this life peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born April 30, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Nelly Cabell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John W. Turner Sr., son; John W. Turner Jr., sisters; Bertha Cabell, Mary Ruth Cabell, Pauline Spinner, Euphemia Cabell, brothers; Nathaniel Cabell, George Cabell, John Cabell, and Tom Cabell.
She is survived by and leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters; Toyer Shifflett (Greg), Linda Baker (Calvin), Alvetta Anderson (Vernon), brother; Jacob Cabell (Actline), Sisters; Ernestine Austin (Carol), Marie Harris, special aunt; Lucy DeShields, as well as her grandkids and great grandkids.
Born with a gentle and quiet spirit, Verlice was known for her unwavering faith, contagious smile, and the ability to brighten any room she entered.
She dedicated many years of her life as a production worker at Conagra, where she was known for her diligence and work ethic, until she retired. Beyond her professional life, she was a devout woman of God and an active watch care member at Elk Hill Baptist Church, where her faith and love for people were at the center of her life.
Known as a jokester to some, she had a playful side, often sharing jokes and sneaky fun with her sisters. She was affectionately known as a “Butterfly” for her gentle and soft demeanor, bringing beauty and grace into the lives of everyone around her. Anyone who had the privilege of tasting her food would agree that she was one of the best cooks on Adial. However, upon retiring, she also retired from cooking, trusting the skills of her children, whom she had taught well. In her pastime, she also enjoyed bingo and afternoon car rides, where her family playfully called her, “Little Ms. Daisy.” Also, she had a love for cats and fed every one of them that found its way onto her porch. Seriously, every single one of them! See me or someone from the family after service if you are looking to adopt one of these well-fed cats!
Her love for God and her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she instilled these values in everyone she touched. Her legacy will be remembered as one of love and forgiveness. She always said, “LOVE, LOVE, LOVE and GOD’s GOT IT”, a message her family will always remember.
She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and will carry her lessons and love with them always. Verlice’s life was a testament to the beauty of a kind and faithful heart, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. Whenever you see a butterfly fluttering by, take a moment to appreciate it as a beautiful reminder of her spirit and the joy she brought to the world.
Verlice Lovely Turner will be dearly missed but never forgotten and may her light shine in our hearts forever.
