Sydney Gail Saunders Hahn, 67 of Piney River, Va passed away on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a courageous 21-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Gail was born on January 16, 1957 in Lynchburg, Va to the late Sidney Vernon and June Spencer Saunders. In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her husband Neil George Hahn, her sister Dolores Hill (Billy) and nephew Jeremy Hill.
After graduating from Nelson County High School, Gail worked as a paralegal for the law office of Eggleston and Thelen until the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) no longer allowed her to. Gail had a love for music which she shared by teaching piano to numerous students over the years. Gail sang in the choir and also served as organist while a member of Calvary Baptist Church then later at Rose Union Baptist Church. Gail served as treasurer for the Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and for many years she directed the Miss Nelson County Pageant with the Nelson County Day Association.
Gail is survived by her daughter Natalie Henley, a son Brandon Ponton, and her beloved cocker spaniel Ellie. Gail was better known as “Nanny” to her grandchildren Zachary Ponton, her devoted “girls” Alyson Ponton, Madison and Meghan Nuckols, as well as Anastasia, Jeremy, and Delilah Ponton. Gail was also blessed to have a great-granddaughter Haden Ponton and was looking forward to “Little Bean’s” arrival in the spring.
A Celebration of Gail’s Life will be held at a later date.
