The family of Shirley Snead Krohn are deeply saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday,
March 21, 2023 at Hospice House in Charlottesville.
Shirley was born in Nelson County on February 3, 1936 to Edward Lawson Snead and Nettie
Louise Ragland Snead. She grew up in Schuyler, later making her home in Faber.
Shirley worked as a supervisor at Centel (Sprint) for 41 years until her retirement in 1995. She
was a dedicated member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber.
Shirley was the most kind, loving, and giving person anyone could know. After retirement she
spent time driving neighbors and/or community members to appointments or to run errands.
She especially loved children and always showed up with a gift or candy. She would often
attend school programs to support those same children. Shirley knew no strangers, if you met
her once she was your friend. She gave from her heart and we were all blessed to have known
her.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, her son, Michael Ragland, and her husband Bill Krohn.
She was also predeceased by her brothers, Edward "Ben" Snead, Gene "Tiny" Snead, and a
sister, Marion Ragland. Also her brother-in-law, Waverly Ragland and nephew, Kenny Ragland.
There are some happy reunions in heaven today.
Shirley is survived by her sister-in-law/best friend, Agnes Snead, and sister-in-law, Betty Snead;
her nieces and nephews, Sharon Bishop (Scott), Rodney Snead (Cristy), Karen Snead, Brennan
Snead, Brant Snead (Jan), Crystal Thibault (Doug), and Sherry Ragland. Great and Great-great
nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Michael, Britney, Kyle, Kaylie, Karrie, Matthew, Wyatt, Leighann,
Rebecca, Zy, Saleena, Aubree, Yani, and Alister. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law,
Teresa Ragland, numerous cousins and many special friends.
The family would like to thank the UVA Hospital staff on 6 Central, Meg with Palliative Care, and
Dr. Amna Sohail for their dedicated care during Shirley's hospital stay. Also a special thanks to
the entire staff at Hospice House who provided exceptional comfort care to allow Shirley a
peaceful passing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Rock Spring United
Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
