Russell Lee Evans, Jr., 96, of Lovington, VA passed away peacefully at his home on November 6, 2022. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Proffitt Evans, and parents, Russell and Hazel Evans.
The major loves of Mr. Evans’ life were his family, his church, and his God. Mr. Evans was a career farmer in Nelson County, growing apples and peaches, as well as logging and raising cattle. He was a lifetime member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. He belonged to the Fleetwood Harmony Masonic Lodge (AF and AM) for over 76 years. He was a charter member of the Lions Club and recipient of their most prestigious honor, the Melvin Jones Award. He was a long time member and officer of the Virginia Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Nelson County Land Use Committee.
Mr. Evans is survived by his two daughters, Charlotte Evans of Manassas and Carolynn (Evans) Thomason of Cary, NC; four grandchildren, Jennifer Conner-Harris (David) of Fredericksburg, Page Meador (Dan) of Manassas, Andrew Severson (Jaclyn) of Shipman, and Bryan Thomason of Durham, NC; four great-grandchildren, Aidan Harris of Fredericksburg, Leighton Meador of Manassas, and Savannah and Logan Severson of Shipman.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Lovington with Reverend Bryan Painter officiating.
Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites accorded by Fleetwood Harmony Lodge #92 AF & AM of Lovingston.
Family night will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests making contributions to the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 62, Lovington, VA 22949.
