Paul F. Sowers, 95, a lifelong resident of Martinsburg, was called home to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Born July 25, 1929, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late James Francis Sowers and Mary Ellen Robinson Sowers.
Paul was preceded in life by his late wife, Marie Sowers of 73 years, who he loved and cherished until his final day.
He graduated from St. Joseph High School. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He thoroughly enjoyed working the Wednesday morning bingo. He liked outdoor sports especially fishing. He could fish for 24 hours and not catch a thing and still cherish his time on the water. Fishing was a skill he loved to pass down to his family. His greatest catch of all was his families heart. He won many trophies.
Paul is survived by his five children: son, P. Frank Sowers (Carrie); daughters, Linda Brown (Marvin), Mary Ann Jacobs (Harry), Connie Frick, Debbie Boor (Dwayne) of Shipman, VA; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; special niece, Joann Sowers, and grandson, Chris Brown, who helped care for him, and many other cherished nieces and nephews; sister, Anna Albright, Rosie Houser, Jean Kisner, Nora Porterfield, Patricia Bowling; brother, C. Thomas Sowers (Becky).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Joseph Sowers; sisters, Marie Osbourn, and Phyllis Howell.
He was a pipefitter and hired to help build the GM plant. This led to him being a permanent employee and retiring from there at age 65.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. A rosary will be said starting at 7:30 PM.
