Mittie Louverne Smith Mott, 83 of Staunton Virginia, gained her beautiful butterfly wings on January 6, 2024 in the care of Kings Daughter's in Staunton Virginia.
She was born on March 11, 1940 to the late Elwood Gordon Goolsby and Edna Virginia Bragg Goolsby.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Elwood Gordon Goolsby, Jr., William Andrew Jackson Goolsby, James Hersey Goolsby, Robert Buddy Goolsby and Kenneth Squeaky Goolsby; her first husband, Granville Willard Smith Jr. of 49 years of marriage and her second husband, James E. Mott of 10 years, and her eldest child, Claudine Smith Wood.
Mittie is survived by her 4 children, Granville W. Smith III and wife Sue of Faber, VA, Jessie W. Smith of Amherst, VA, Jeannette Smith Wright and husband William "Billy" Wright of Schuyler, VA, and daughter Angela C. Smith of Albany, GA. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her closest grandchild being Christina "Charlie" LeAn Tuttle who assisted in all of her care and well being after the death of her late husband James Mott.
Mittie who was also known to her grand and great grand children as Mema was known for being a hard worker who loved being outside gardening her vegetables and flowers and canning. She loved sewing, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family. Though Mittie had partial blindness in one eye she was a crack shot with a 22 rifle. Mittie was a master seamstress and later retired from the Albemarle County School system assisting special needs children on their bus routes.
A celebration of life for family and friends to come share their memories of Mittie will be held on January 20, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Full Gospel Church, 1005 Smith Road Afton, VA 22920 with Reverend Scott Jewel officiating.
