Michael V. Fortune

Michael V. Fortune passed from this life on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the age of 73. He was born in Charlottesville, VA on September 24, 1951 and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. 

The legacy he left will be felt by all who knew him, and all that didn’t. He was a proud employee of the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative where he worked on the transmission of electricity for multiple counties. 

He was a resident of Nelson County where he grew up, lived and worked. He was gracious in extending his welcome and always a steady hand when you needed one. Mike will be truly missed by those who knew him and his memory cherished. 

Mike was preceded in death by his Father, George Thomas Fortune, Jr., his Mother, Eula Seay Fortune and his Sister, Evelina Bridgwater.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce H. Fortune, his children Angela Fortune Hicks (Nelson), Michael Todd Fortune (Molly), his grandchildren Jon Johnson (Emily), Camden Johnson (Destiny), Nolan Fortune, Lila Fortune, his great-grandchildren Hayden, Parker, and Reese Johnson, two brothers and one sister.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Oak Hill Baptist Church, Lovingston Virginia, on January 25, 2025 at 11:00 am with Rev. Bryan Painter officiating.
