Michael F. "Mickey" Carter

 

Mr. Michael F. “Mickey” Carter departed his life at home on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the side of his loving wife, three days short of their 54th Wedding Anniversary.

 

Born September 15, 1949 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of James Landon Carter and Nettie Brice Carter, both of whom preceded him in death. Additionally, he is preceded in death by his seven siblings; one sister, Jean Stevenson; and six brothers; Rudolph Pinkney, Claiborne Pinkney, Alec Pinkney, Edward Pinkney, James “Jimmy” Carter, and Lawrence “Butch” Carter.

 

Affectionately known as "Mickey" to everyone, he was the patriarch of the family. Mickey was baptized at an early age and was a member of New Mount Baptist Church (Arrington, VA). He was previously employed by WestCo (Lynchburg, VA) and ConAgra (Crozet, VA) for many years. Mickey had a gift of singing to bring joy to his wife, many grandchildren, relatives, and friends especially on birthdays. His smile and charm always shined through, as he never met a stranger. 

 

Mickey leaves to cherish his loving wife, Sallie Briggs Carter; three sons: Michael “Darryl” Carter (Tawanda) of Roseland, VA; Clifton Carter (Christine) of Woodbridge, VA; Wayne “Neal” Carter (Eva) of Campbell County, VA; one brother-in-law Larry Briggs (Alveta) of Arrington, VA; three sisters-in-law Gloria Carter (Late Jimmy Carter), Eunice Briggs (Late Thompson Briggs),Veronica Briggs (Late Robert Briggs); eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.

 

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 8404 Thomas Nelson Hwy., Lovingston, VA with Pastor Sheldon Page, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in New Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, 370 Phoenix Road, Arrington, VA.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Calvary Baptist Church.

 

The family would like to express their gratitude to the many families and friends near and far that have supported them during this difficult time. May God bless you richly.
