Mary "Louise" Baber Moore

Mary “Louise” Baber Moore, 92, of Faber, passed away on January 18th, 2025. Louise, as everyone called her, was raised in Greenwood, VA; born on November 17, 1932 to Marvin and Anne Baber. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Hutchinson, and three sons Bob Moyer, Steven Moyer and Derek Moyer. She has 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Louise graduated from Greenwood High School in 1950, and married her bus driver, Herman P Moyer in 1951. She traveled with Herman as a military wife for several years; bringing into the world 4 beautiful children; Bob, Steve and Derek born in Washington, DC, and Lisa, her only girl, born in England. Another move led them to Patrick Air Force Base in Satellite Beach, Florida, where their marriage ended in 1966, and Louise bought a home in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida; found a fulltime job with Harris Corporation, and raised her 4 children.

Louise’s deep desire was to become a nurse, and enrolled in Brevard Community College in the early 70’s, working full time in the day, and taking night classes to get her nursing degree; graduating in 1977. She quit Harris Corp and became an LPN at Brevard Hospital in Melbourne, FL. In 1979 Louise married Chuck Moore, and moved to Virginia, where her parents lived. She loved Virginia, and soon after arriving, her father needed care and he moved in with Chuck and Louise. This was a struggle for her because he was an alcoholic, but with Chuck’s help they managed to care for him until he passed away. Soon after, her mother showed signs of Alzheimer Disease and moved into their home. They struggled again to became full time caregivers until her mother passed away.

Louise had a love of nature and the outdoors. She passed on that appreciation to her children; taking them to many gardens and springs when they lived in Florida; teaching them to admire culture and the beauty of our world. At her Virginia home she had a garden where she grew her own vegetables and canned them each year. She had many flowers to attract butterflies, and hummingbird feeders to watch the cute little birds flitter about. She kept birdseed on hand and would spread it out on a table each morning outside her glass door so she could watch all the birds come and feed.

Louise was best known for her act of servanthood. She was compassionate and selfless in serving others, and wanted to glorify God above personal ambition or recognition. She was devoted to her church she’d been attending for 45+ years, Rock Spring United Methodist Church, and very active in participating in church activities, including singing in the choir, teaching, and a host of other things. One member of the church said it would be a much shorter list to name the things she didn’t do. She was also known during harvest festivals and bazaars for making delicious apple butter, and pickles from watermelon rinds.

Louise’s home was a place of refuge for many friends and family members. A final destination for some, and a place to hide out from the world for many. She was a listener; one who would listen to anyone who had a concern or problem. And she gave wise counsel to the distraught, and comfort to anyone who may need it. She was a prayer warrior for those she loved, and an inspiration to all who knew her.
