Mary Ellen Lawhorne

Mary E. Lawhorne, 89, of Shipman went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

She is the wife of the late Buford O. Lawhorne.

Mary is survived by her children, Thomas Lawhorne (Roxanne) of Pottstown, PA, Joyce Cheatham (Stuart) of Schuyler and Melissa Maynard (John) of Cape Charles; four brothers, Jerry Hudson (Meredith), Scott Hudson (Roberta), Tim Hudson (Cathy) all of New York and Mike Walker of Amherst; 15 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Buford; two sons, Buford (Bill) and Bruce; one grandson, Jason; one great-grandson, Barrett; one brother, William Bartley; and a sister, Janet Bartley Osborne.

Mary was known throughout the county for babysitting.

The family would like to thank Cheryl Ferguson of Lynchburg Health and Rehab for her care and dedication to our mom during her time there.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Roseland with the Reverend Dewayne Martin officiating.

Following the service the family will receive friends at the home of granddaughter Karissa Shrader in Amherst, Virginia.
