“GM, I Love you All”

Lester James “Jimmy” Fortune, Jr., 51, of Shipman passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst.

He was born January 9, 1973 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He loved the Lord, his family and everyone he met. Jimmy also loved the Washington Redskins, The Virginia Cavaliers, The Waltons, and enjoyed playing cards. He had a real love for life, never missing his famous morning greetings and donated his time to one of his favorite causes, Relay for life. Jimmy was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and a true inspiration to all that knew him. 

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Aileen Thompson, maternal grandmother, Granny Ruth, maternal great-grandmother, Odelia Wood, great uncle, Ebbie Wood, paternal grandparents, Dabney M. Fortune and Odie Seay “Byrd” Fortune.

Jimmy is survived by his mother, Melissa M. Thompson and step-father, Charles of Arrington; his father, Lester J. “Jimmy” Fortune, Sr. and step-mother, Nina of Hendersonville, TN; six siblings, Chris Fortune, Meghann Fortune, Matthew Fortune, Jessica Turner, Cortney Buckley, and Grant Fortune; 13 nieces and nephews as well as a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Jimmy is also survived by his 4,500 Facebook followers from all over the world.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church, 8408 Thomas Nelson Highway, Lovingston, Virginia 22949 with Rev. Bryan Painter and Rev. David Blevins officiating.

Interment will follow in the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery in Lovingston.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church.
