Kimberly Dawn Martin

Kimberly “Kim” Dawn Martin, 59, of Shipman departed this life on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at her residence.

Kim was born August 25, 1964, in Charlottesville, VA.  She was the daughter of late Bernice Myrtle (Bell) Martin and late John Percy Martin, Jr. of Shipman, VA.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandparents Ender Betty Bell of Shipman, VA., Eugene Foster, Sr. of Washington, DC., Jannie Hickman Martin and John Percy Martin of Shipman, VA; two brothers John Martin, III of Shipman, VA. and Michael Martin of Manhattan, KS; one sister Rebecca Martinez of Reston, Va. and a host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Kim joined Bright Hope Baptist Church at an early age.  She attended the public school system in Nelson County.  She adored spending time with her children and being Glam-Ma to her grandbabies.  She was passionate about family gatherings such as second Saturday and holidays.  She enjoyed gardening and tending to her many flowers/plants, listening to gospel music, dancing to many tunes – especially her all-time favorite Janet Jackson.  She was a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, watching CNN, taking countless selfies, and playing Candy Crush which most times would lead to a call to customer service to retract charges towards additional ‘lives’ purchased.

Kimberly leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters; Brandy Martin Watson (Teron) of Amherst, VA., Ebony Martin (Matt) of Shipman, VA., Markita Martin Jackson (Eddie) of Palmyra, VA; one son, Marcus Martin of Lynchburg, VA; five sisters Dale Davidson of Faber, VA., Kathy Martin of Charlottesville, VA., Jacqueline Jones (Ronnie) of Shipman, VA., Valerie Martin of Shipman, VA., Karen Martin of Waynesboro, VA; two brothers, Edgar Martin (Cheryl) of Charlottesville, VA and Timothy Martin (Ann) of Roseland, VA; ten grandchildren Bryson Watson of Amherst, VA., Aaliyah, Makenzie, Ryleigh, Jada and Khloe Martin, Cameron Barbour of Shipman, VA., Elijah, Mehki, and Emmanuel Jackson of Palmyra, VA; two sister-in laws Pauline Martin of Shipman, VA and Brenda Martin of Manhattan, KS; one aunt Julia Brown of Lovingston, VA and one uncle Eugene Foster (Peggy) of Clinton, MD; two loving and devoted friends; Robert Irving of Amherst, VA and Ethel Banks of Charlottesville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston with Pastor Shawn Wright officiating.  Interment will follow in the Martin Family Cemetery in Shipman.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Repast will follow the interment at the Bright Hope Baptist Church in Lovingston.
