Joseph Leonard “Joey” Fitzgerald, Jr., 72 of Lovingston passed away Monday, November 11, 2024 at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst.

He was born on May 28, 1952 in Waynesboro, a son of the late Joseph L. Fitzgerald, Sr. and Nina Stewart Fitzgerald.

Joey retired from the University of Virginia as an electrician with 43 years of service.  He was a member of Shipman Baptist Church and a member of Fleetwood Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 92 of Lovingston.

He is survived by his loving, dedicated, and caring wife, Donna Rae Fitzgerald; his loyal and devoted son, Cameron S. Fitzgerald and his wife, Annah of Piney River; his grandson, Brayden T. Fitzgerald; his foster sister, Harriet Weaver Sanderson of Deep Run, NC as well as two special extended family members, Hope G. Pappas and Betty Lou Bryant.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Mt. View Cemetery in Lovingston with Rev. Bryan Painter and Pastor John Campbell officiating.

Masonic rites by Fleetwood Harmony Lodge No. 92 AF&AM of Lovingston.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fairmont Crossing for their dedicated care to Joey and a special thanks to his roommate Jaime Nowlin.
