Janice Kidd Matthews, 89, of Lovingston, VA passed away peacefully in her home, Wednesday, February 26th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 14, 1935 and was the daughter of William Jefferson Kidd and Julia Huffman Kidd.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years, Samuel Curtis Matthews and three brothers, Wilson, Marshall and Roger Kidd.
Janice is survived by her son William David Matthews and his wife Judy, and three granddaughters, Mary Mays and her husband J.P., Sara Moses and her husband Rob, and Allison Wooten and her husband Jordan. She also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren: Eli, Lily Grace and Caleb Mays, Roland and Belen Moses, Levi Morris and Riley and Josie Wooten. She is survived by sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
For many years she worked at Johnson’s Senior Center where she cared for and brought joy to the residents. She held other jobs prior, but her true life’s work was her family whom she loved dearly and prioritized above all. She enjoyed making meals and gathering with family around the table, traveling to bluegrass festivals - especially Galax Fiddler’s Convention - with her husband, son and daughter in law, visiting Pennsylvania each fall, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and simply going for a ride around Nelson County. She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She leaves behind a great void and will be sorely missed by her family and the many lives she touched.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks to Tina Adkins, Janice’s caregiver, for the love and care she showed Janice the last 6 months.
