Gracie Baber Toms

Gracie Baber Toms, 91, of Faber transitioned into eternal life on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born April 1, 1933 in Charlottesville, VA she was the daughter of the late Hildra Ernest Baber and Effie Mae Canody Baber.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Henry Grayson Toms, Jr.; 9 brothers, 4 sisters, as wells as a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Hazel Bell.

Gracie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from the University of Virginia Medical Center as a billing clerk and was a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church in Faber, VA. 

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Mays (Roger) of Shipman; her son, Doug Toms (Sue) of St. John, NC; three grandchildren, Tiffany Payne (Richard), Clint Mays (Heather) and Grayson Toms (Melinda); five great grandchildren, Lane, Cameron, Colton, Gage, and Skylar; a special friend, Dale Davidson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Rock Spring United Methodist Church with Pastor Hillary Evans officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at the funeral home.
