Garland Keith Martin, 93, of the Tye River Community, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024.
Keith was born September 3, 1930, in Appomattox, VA to the late Robert Marshall Martin and Ethel Tatum Martin.
Keith proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return to the United States, he discovered a love for trains and became a railroad man. He worked for CSX Railroad (formerly C&O) and Amtrak until he retired in 1993. Keith was a member of St. Stephen’s Baptist Church and served as the Chairman of the Deacons for many years.
In addition to his parents, Keith is preceded in death by a brother, James Martin; three sisters, Mabel Heins, Ethel Lee Plunkett, and Edythe Megginson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Eleanor Gowen Martin; two daughters, Cindy Martin and Nita Cindrick (Larry); grandson, Jason Martin (Felicia); granddaughter, Jordan Taylor (Andrew); seven great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brother, Gordon Martin (Joann); sister, June Page (Ray); and his best feline friend, Cowboy.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. Stephen’s Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Mickey Ryan officiating.
Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #16 of Lynchburg.
