Evon “Bish” Bishop, 86, of Shipman, Virginia, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. He was born to Wiley and Claudia Bishop on November 3, 1936, in Magee, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Edward, Wayne, and Earl Bishop; one sister, Wilma Sullivan; and his son, Dennis Bishop.
Bish is survived by his wife, Sara Bishop; a son, Steven Bishop (Esther) and Cameron Bishop; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Bishop of Charlottesville, Virginia; four grandsons: Joseph Bishop of Morgantown, West Virginia; David Bishop (Monica) of San Bernardino, California; Brandon Bishop of Newport Beach, California; and Jonathan Whichard of Bradenton, Florida; and seven great-grandchildren.
Bish served for twenty-one years in the United States Navy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After retiring from the Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1975, he worked at the Norfolk (Virginia) Naval Shipyard as a marine machinist until 1989.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Rock Spring United Methodist Church Cemetery in Faber, Virginia, with Pastor Hillary Evans officiating. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall after the service.
