Ella Inez Turner

Mrs. Ella Inez Turner 93, of Lovington, Virginia departed this life on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va. 

Ella (known by everyone as Inez) was born November 14, 1930 in Nelson County.   She was the daughter of the late Willie and Mary Sue Baker.  

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Linwood Turner, Sr.; two brothers, Lloyd and Frederick Baker; four sisters, Alice Moody, Mary Brunson, Christine Brown and Rachel Gray; son, McNeil Hawkins; nephew, Jeffrey Lamont Brunson; niece, Ella Louise West; niece, Sharon Moody; niece, Anna Mae Baker; niece, Rachel E. Gray; niece, Barbara Ann Barber; niece, Virginia Louise Foster; great nephew, Frederick Gray and a great-great nephew, Ray Mosby.

 

She joined the church at an early age and was a faithful and devoted member of the Bright Hope Baptist Church. In her earlier years she served as Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, served on the food committee and was the Mother of the church. She looked forward to preparing food for revival and family events.  Ella was a retired seamstress at Manhattan Ultra Slide Fashions in New York where she worked many years.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three stepsons, Leroy (Carolyn) Turner, Linwood Turner, and Lance Turner all of Lynchburg, Va.; one step-daughter, Nicole (Brandon) Foster of Texas; three step-grandsons; five step-granddaughters; seven step-great grandchildren and nine step-great great grandchildren. 

Inez came from a very large family and leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. A very dear, special, loving and dedicated nephew, Abraham Gray, Jr. and two special friends, Julia Brown and Dale Davidson. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Bright Hope Baptist Church in Lovingston with Rev. James Rose officiating and Rev. Samuel Woodson eulogist.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour before the time of service.
