Carleton Dale Ward

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Carleton Dale Ward, loving husband and father passed away at age 76. 

Dale was born on May 10, 1946 in Waynesboro, Virginia. 

He retired from Dupont after 39 years of service.  He served in the United States Army from 1966-1967.  He received the Rifle Sharpshooter recognition and the National Defense Service Medal. 

On March 23, 1968, he married Linda Purvis.  They raised three children, Michelle, Annette, and Bruce.  Dale enjoyed his garden and feeding the wildlife in his backyard. He loved to mow grass and cut wood in the evenings.  The community appointed Dale as the honorary Mayor of Nellysford.  He had the ability to never meet a stranger and his passion was to serve Christ.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Herbert, his mother, Joyce and his brother, David. 

He is survived by his wife Linda, his three children, Michelle, Annette, and Bruce.  His sisters, Kris, Lisa, and Sherri and a brother Roger.  He leaves behind grandchildren Callum, Caroline, Luke, Lilly, and Simone. 

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023 at 2PM at Rockfish Valley Baptist Church in Nellysford, Virginia.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Military rites will be accorded by the Army National Guard of Staunton.

A celebration for “The Mayor” will be held at the Rockfish Valley Fire and Rescue immediately following the service.  As a thank you, donations may be sent to the Wintergreen Fire and Rescue Department who aided in his care.
