Barbara Jean Johnson Ponton

 

Barbara Jean Johnson Ponton, 86 of Lovingston passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born October 21, 1936 the daughter of the late Julian Dement Johnson and Glenn Ann Tice Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Withers "Buck" Ponton, her son Leslie Julian "Les" Ponton,  her sister, Shirley Ann Queja, and her brother, Julian Ernest Johnson.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lisa Jeffers and husband John of Waynesboro,  her son Anthony Blake Wooten, and her daughter Lauren Adams and husband Kevin, one brother James Leonard Johnson of Lynchburg, and numerous nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Barbara worked for 20 years as a paralegal for Kilgore Attorney At Law. She was a lifelong member at Jonesboro Baptist Church.

She also enjoyed baking  homemade yeast rolls and baking and decorating cakes for birthdays and special occasions.  Barbara was a huge UVA Basketball and Football fan and enjoyed watching the games on TV or listening to them on the radio.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Jonesboro Baptist Church in Roseland with Pastor John P. Campbell officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, VA 22949.
